A new magazine

I am planning to start a general, news, infotainment monthly magazine. I know the timing for bringing out such a magazine is not best suited in the present business environment without the backing of any financial group. It is also perhaps not the best time to get into business as over cautious investors are holding on to their resources and plans.
However, I feel that recession trends are not going to last. And instead of waiting for the tide to ebb, I am planning to stand up and start working on the dream which have been nurturing for long.
I am seeking your guidance and views so that it would enable me answer few of the questions any conscious reader would like to address:
1. What kind of content would you like to read at home
A – For time pass
B – For information
C – For news
2. How much time are you able to spare in a month for reading
A – Newspaper
B – Magazines
C – Non-Fiction/Fiction
3. In the era of TV/Mobile/internet – do you think you get all the information/news/infotainment at one go and one platform?
4. What kind of information/news/help do you often seek but are not able to access?
5. What does an ideal magazine mean to you?
These are simple questions and hopefully you will be able to spare a few minutes to answer the questions diligently. Your reply will enable me to understand the requirements of a reader/consumer and will equip me to address the content of the magazine in a more systematic and planned manner.

  1. 1.b-News is what people get to know from news channels and news paper. According to me strength of magazine would be providing exclusive information and analysis of the segment it is going to be on.

    2.a-newspaer: 30 mins daily
    b- magazine-2 hrs a week
    c-non-fiction- 3 hrs a week

    3- no

4- health, govt policy that people cane use, basic rights, good consultancy service

5- A magazine that can provide information at one spot. Not neceaary it should have long articles but reader would enjoy it more even if there are short news item. readers should be able to read it fast.

  2. 1.News actually that effects me, my profession.(I know I am mean! lol)

    2. Roughly an hour a day in fiction
and just go through the pages of newspaper.

    3. No, I think every news channel, magazine does have its own identity and value system that they follow. So getting everything at one platform is inevitable.

    4. Economic and business news written more simply (it seems they only write for Econ.(hons.) pass outs...LOL). The terms used should be understandable to masses so that everyone can benefit from the change

    5. it should give quick news.

  3. i would suggest that the magazine should have all the regular features, PLUS one follow up feature. in that feature we can ask about follow up of cases which we tend to forget over a period of time and which is exploited by the wrong doers. " kuch din baad sab bhool jayenge" attitude should be challanged.

and dont forget to hire a competent lawyer before you start this magazine.
